Doors to Emory University and Goizueta Business School remained closed much of last week due to a massive snow and ice storm that brought the city of Atlanta to a sudden — and uncomfortable — halt.

Two of Goizueta’s admissions office personnel were scheduled to leave Monday for New York for an “Inside the MBA” recruiting event, but were grounded as flights were canceled Sunday night into Monday at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

But that wasn’t the end of the story.

Goizueta alums Albert Hsu (pictured on left), Jonathan Gibson  (right) and Troy Gorczyca agreed prior to the event to act as ambassadors for the school and field questions from perspective students. But, with admissions staffers stranded in Atlanta, they picked up the reins entirely.

The trio unpacked written materials sent prior to the storm and ran the school’s table. Staffers normally travel with a logo-embroidered table cloth which also stayed in Atlanta with no hope of arrival.

The former students took a digital copy of the logo and created an impromptu banner.

“This is a great example of the wonderful and resourceful alums that we have,” said Julie Barefoot, associate dean of MBA admissions.
