Technology executive and Army veteran Darrell Stinson reflects on how Goizueta’s Master of Business for Veterans program transformed his approach to leadership and executive decision-making.
With more than 25 years of experience spanning IT, cybersecurity, and military service in the U.S. Army, Darrell J. Stinson 26MBV pursued the Master of Business for Veterans degree to strengthen and expand his leadership capabilities at the executive level.
“As a Vice President of IT & Security, I was operating at a high level, but I wanted to sharpen my strategic, financial, and enterprise leadership lens to lead more holistically,” Stinson said.
For Stinson, earning the degree also carried deep personal significance.
“As a first-generation college graduate, earning this degree was deeply personal,” he said. “It was a commitment to legacy, growth, and expanding what I believed was possible for myself and others.”

Throughout the program, Stinson says the experience fundamentally changed the way he approaches leadership and decision-making.

“I treated the classroom as an extension of the boardroom,” he said. “I immediately applied frameworks from strategy, finance, and operations to real initiatives, whether refining investment decisions, strengthening governance models, or improving how I communicated risk and value to executive stakeholders.”
That real-time application, he says, sharpened his decision-making and strengthened his ability to operate at the enterprise level.
“The most meaningful benefits have been expanded influence and opportunity,” Stinson said. “The degree has positioned me for more challenging executive-level roles, broadened my professional network across industries, and enhanced my credibility in both technical and business conversations.”
He also credits the program with opening doors beyond his current role, including consulting and strategic advisory opportunities.
